| My art, to date, is American because I am most familiar
with the American landscape and people. Since my work is content
oriented, I prefer to make art from a base of as much familiarity with
the inspiring objects and places as possible.
My art is romantic because I choose to affirm that our consciousness,
however finite, implies that our attitudes and subsequent behaviors do
matter, even if only to us and those we influence in our lifetimes.
It tends toward expressionism rather than formalism because I am more
concerned with coming to grips with and creating a summary expression of
personal experiential events than I am with fitting my creative activity
into any pre-existing form.
My art focuses on the panoply of potential external experience rather
than on art itself or introspective, theoretical human activity.
That focus, however, remains open to all germane philosophical questions.
Caught up in an effort to distill the essence of a real and personal
experience, my work has little concern with decor. I am more interested
in interacting with a living and working mind than in interacting with
a living or working space. Therefore, my expressions are the kind
of art with whom you might carry on aesthetic conversations; at first,
as you would with a new acquaintance, and then later perhaps conversing
as you would with a good friend who you know will tell you no lies.
